Pey gets its name from "Pouey" which means bluff (above the Adour river). The town surrounds the church where the altar was renovated in the 19th century.
The Pont de la Marquèze (Marquèze bridge), built across the Adour in 1935, replaced the ferry, consequently improving trade with the North, towards the Landes’ Southern Coast.
The Barthes, partially farmed, are occupied in wintertime by semi-underground huts (called tonnes in French) for duck hunting.
