Bélus culminates at an altitude of 127 metres (417 ft), consequently explaining the magnificent scenery that one discovers here overlooking the valley of the Gave rivers, Pyrenees mountains, hilly Chalosse and even the Landes forest.
Vineyards were the main agricultural crop of the village, which erected a monument in 1952 to François Baco (1865-1947). The school teacher reformed vineyards in the Landes devastated by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century. He created new grape varieties thus contributing to his region’s prosperity.
